One of the greatest challenges with ANY Off-Grid system is having a large enough, efficient enough and reliable battery storage solution, that won't let you down!

Generating power is the easy and relatively inexpensive part of an off-grid solar system, but unless you can store that excess energy for later use, it will be lights out at sundown.

Until recently off-grid systems typically relied upon old technology lead-acid batteries, (Flooded, AGM, Gel, etc.) to provide that battery storage solution, and although they served a purpose and were the best option at the time, they are less than ideal compared to modern technology for off-grid and ESS (energy storage system) purposes due to their low depth of discharge (about 50% of capacity), the low number of life cycles (approx 550), and the relatively short life span (compared to modern-day lithium batteries).

They are also much slower to charge and discharge than newer Lithium batteries.

In recent years Lithium-ion batteries become the battery (or chemistry) of choice, offering much better depths of discharge (about 80%), faster charging and discharge rates (usually around 30-40A) and much longer life cycles. (around 2,500), however, these could be somewhat volatile and prone to catching on fire (if not handled and used correctly)


Today Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries (sometimes referred to as LiFePO4 batteries or LFP Batteries) have become the gold standard for battery chemistry for off-grid and energy storage systems.

They provide much greater levels of safety (it is nearly impossible to get them to catch on fire), have greater still charge and discharge rates (up to 100A), have further improved life cycles (6,000 plus for a good quality LiFePO4) and they are much more friendly towards the environment.

Aus-Power Batteries Premium Series 48V/51.2V 5.12KWh battery module, is a high-quality, self-managed, 19" rack-mounted or stackable battery module comprising of 16 x 100Ah A Grade prismatic cells (16S configuration) which provides a nominal voltage of 51.2V and 5.12KWh of energy storage.

Each battery module contains its own high-quality industrial-grade BMS (battery management system) to protect the battery during use and to optimise the batteries performance and life cycles, an LCD screen for ongoing monitoring of the battery status, a 125A MCB (Master Circuit Breaker) for added protection, as well as a pre-charge resistor, and 5 temperature sensors.

Individual cells are laser welded together, providing superior connectivity and reliability.

Our 5KWh modules provide maximum flexibility and can be used individually or connected together in parallel (up to 16 modules, 80KWh) and are perfect for off-the-grid battery storage solutions as well as battery backup solutions for grid-connected installations or any other application that requires a high-quality, reliable and dependable 48V power source.

A high-quality, self-managed, 19" rack-mounted or stackable battery module comprising of 16 x 100Ah A Grade Prismatic cells (16 S configuration) providing a nominal voltage of 51.2V and 5.12KWh of energy storage.

Each battery module contains its own high-quality BMS (battery management system) to protect the battery during use and to optimise its performance and life cycle, as well as an LCD screen for monitoring the battery status, as well as a 125A MCB (master circuit breaker) providing an additional level of safety.

Modules can be used individually or connected in parallel (up to 15 modules, 76.8KWh) and are perfect for off-grid battery storage solutions and can also be used as battery backup for grid-connected installations.

Two RS485 ports are provided for communication between the individual battery modules or a computer for detailed monitoring or parameter changes.

Not All Lithium Batteries Are Created Equal!

Our aim is not to produce the cheapest battery possible (there are plenty of companies already doing that), but to provide quality value for money Lithium Batteries, at unbeatable prices! 

Simply put, modern-day batteries are state-of-the-art and complicated devices, and not all batteries are created equal, in fact, they vary enormously from one brand to another, and as batteries form the largest cost associated with your off-grid or on-grid battery storage system, it pays to do your homework, to only use quality products and get it right the first time.

When comparing batteries it is important to compare Apples with Apples and not Oranges to Lemons!

Lithium Batteries vary enormously from one brand and model to the next.

Some of these differences include the type of chemistry used in the battery (eg. Lithium Ion or Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) or ....etc), the type of cells used (cylindrical or prismatic), the quality of cells used, are they A grade, B Grade, or C Grade cells, and the expected life cycles that the cells provide.

Questions you need to consider -
Does the battery have an inbuilt BMS and if so what is the quality of that BMS (is it a cheap basic BMS that offers very few features and levels of protection or is it a high-quality industrial-grade BMS that offers a high level of protection, high levels of safety and good communication options that allow you to monitor the batteries performance and state of health over a period of time).

Can the batteries communicate between themselves, or communicate directly with an inverter, can the batteries be monitored through a PC, does the BMS provide Bluetooth capabilities, etc, do they have pre-charge resistors built into them, do they have inbuilt battery monitors, do they come with a MCB (Master Circuit Breaker which provides an additional layer of safety and protection), are they using good quality cables, what about the quality of the busbars used, how are those cables and busbars attached, and the list goes on.

Choosing the right battery is critical to a successful off-grid or on-grid battery backup system and it can be a time-consuming, complicated and confusing process.

Most people assume the big brand names, Telsa Powerwall, LG Chem, BYD, Growatt, PowerPlus etc are the best and only options available, simply because they have previously heard of that brand or is recommended by their installer, which does provide some level of confidence, however, just like any product, to promote that product and create brand awareness cost money (lots of money), and these marketing costs need to be absorbed by someone, and that someone is usually you, the consumer.

Very few battery manufacturers will actually show you what's inside their batteries, so you can evaluate for yourself just how well designed they are, the quality of the components used, and the level of workmanship that has gone into manufacturing that battery.

Just like a car you NEED to look under the hood, this will help you decide if you are ACTUALLY buying a top-quality product that represents good value for money or if you are just buying into marketing hype and paying for an overpriced product.
